Chinese Putonghua (Mandarin) Program
The Chinese Putonghua (Mandarin) program adopts Putonghua as the medium of teaching and offers 6 grades, accepting students aged 3 or above. The pinyin phonetic system and simplified Chinese characters are used to teach Putonghua. Teachers help the students to learn the language in a cheerful environment by adopting a lively and interactive approach.
Conversational Cantonese Program
To suit the need of English-speaking students, textbooks come with English translation and Cantonese phonetic system (Yale Romanization). Students learn about Cantonese pronunciation, conversation, sentence structure and singing. It is hoped that the students can lively apply the glossary they have learned and use the Chinese language naturally.
Conversational Putonghua (Mandarin) Program
Students are assigned to different classes according to their proficiency in Putonghua. To suit the needs of local students, textbooks from Beijing Language and Culture University supplemented by teaching notes prepared by our teachers are used. The standard pinyin phonetic system and simplified characters are also adopted for instruction.
Putonghua Intense Program : Speak Putonghua \ Mandarin in 10 weeks
The main purpose of learning a language is the natural and fluent application of the language in daily life. The complete course is divided into 4 modules with a total of 32 lessons. The duration of each lesson is 2 hr. and 10 min. and has four units: “Text”, “Words and Phrases”, “Review”, and “Extended Practice”. The Text Unit is practice-oriented, and its materials are drawn from daily life. The materials range from self-introduction to family, school, communication, and daily dialogues. The key and frequently used words and phrases are fully elaborated in the Word and Phrase Unit. In the Review Unit, there are no phonetic symbols so as to enable the students to identify the words without the help of phonetic symbols, and get a better understanding of the texts. Finally, in the Extended Practice Unit, it is hoped that the students can lively apply the glossary they have learned and use the Chinese language naturally.
Mathematics program for Gr. 1 to Gr. 12 is formulated on the basis of the Mathematics curriculum laid down by the Ontario Ministry of Education, as well as EQAO oriented. To enhance and reinforce learning, program materials are specially developed to include three major components in each chapter, namely “Key Notes”, “Examples” and “Practice”. Assignments and exercises are given out in class, which are relatively more intense and of a higher level of difficulty than the Ontario curriculum. This helps students upgrade their problem-solving skills so that they can tackle difficult topics with ease.
